Intermittent Fasting Diet

fasting, diet, weight loss, skinny, burn fat

Piatkus is proud to have published Burn Fat Fast, Patrick Holford’s innovative and truly effective alternate-day diet. Also known as intermittent fasting, alternate-day diets are all the rage – but this diet takes it to a whole new level.

The reason that Burn Fat Fast is different is because it focuses on the fact that fasting switches on those skinny jeans, not because of the reduction in calorie intake but because it keeps your blood sugar – and hence your insulin level – relatively even. That’s why this diet is alternate-day and low- glycemic load (GL). (A low-GL diet is one that limits refined carbohydrates). It’s easy to follow:  you simply avoid highly refined carbohydrates and sugars and concentrate on healthy, unrefined foods. The added bonus is that because you’re eating well on your non-fast days you can afford to eat more on your ‘down’ day than with other fasting diets. In fact, you’ll be amazed at how much you can eat and still lose weight.

And because this diet is based on what scientific studies are telling us about the best way to burn fat, it includes a short fat-burning exercise routine developed former Gladiator Kate Staples. It’s simple, highly effective and is suitable for everyone – irrespective of their fitness level.

But at the heart of the diet is tasty, good-for-you food and as well as general guidance on the sorts of foods you should be eating on non-fasting and fasting days, you’ll find plenty of meal ideas and delicious recipes. Here’s a sample of a day’s menu on the fasting day – and yes, you can eat all this delicious food on your ‘down’ day!

Breakfast

A bowl of porridge – made from a small cupful of oats, 150ml water, 75ml milk, 3 tsp seeds and some berries

Lunch

Feta salad – to a handful of mixed salad leaves add 6 halved Kalamata olives, 2 chopped sun-dried tomatoes and 2 fresh tomatoes, 25g cubed feta cheese, 3 tsp pine nuts and a sprinkle of oregano

Snack

1 small natural bio yogurt (no sugar) and a handful of berries

Dinner

Indian Spiced Chicken – marinate 1 chicken breast in the juice of 1 lemon, 1 crushed clove of garlic, ½ tsp each of turmeric and cumin, 1 tsp ground coriander and a pinch of cayenne, for at least 30 minutes. Grill for 15 minutes, turning once. Serve with a large portion of steamed greens, such as tenderstem broccoli, or a green salad.
